Concerning the PBS video, Through the years, the internet world has changed extremely. Initially, the purpose of the internet was mainly for adults, and their life. However, nowadays, it has turned into a whole different situation. Minors, abuse the internet and are the main users of the internet. This is the cause of the sites, mainly: Facebook, myspace, and twitter. Teenagers always have a lot of time on their hands and can put an infinite amount of time into each of these websites, and converse fully and non stop to one another. All these websites, you can put up pictures, talk to your friends, and make new friends, without having the "trouble" to leave your house. Furthermore, the video also pointed out that theyre are no rules on the web so everything is in the teenagers hands. It can be as far as posting inappropriate pictures or videos or anything of that sort. Teenagers choose this way to communicate because its less anxiety for them, and the parents don't have to know. I do think that though, teenagers should have a regulation on what they can or cannot do on the online world.
Obamas use of social networking really gave me a great perspective on social networking. The article really showed us that Obama exploited all of the amazing uses on the internet. The website mybarakobama.com was a site to help him in his campaign and was a fund-rasier. Talbot explains how President Obama used the website to gain voters and furthermore have more recognition. This website was really a primary point to his success.
The Second life article, is a game that people are allowed to create a "Second life" on line. Second life, has its pros and cons. A positive aspect about this game is, people who aren't confident with themselves, have a chance to be who they really are without being frightened that the other one might not like him/her based on his/her looks. It allows people to make up whatever they want, and say whatever they want without being confronatitional. Whatever they truly wanted in their "first life", they could virtualy make up in ther "second life". This website allows many people to connect with eachother, from people with speaking disabilities, to children getting abused. this is a setting and a way to get away, but still beign able to improve on their social skills. This game, can allow peers to get comfortable with eachother, I think this is a great way to open doors for communication and really apply it to the real world.
